From Magnolia Lane, to Amen Corner, to the tradition, there is not much more anyone can ask for during the first week of April. The Masters takes place this week at the iconic Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. The most anticipated and exciting tournament is returning for its 87th rendition. The field this week has practically every single name you can think of in the game of golf over the past decade. Fred Couples, Phil Mickelson, and Tiger Woods are some of the older players looking to win another green jacket this year. One of the biggest stories to follow this week is the inclusion of the various LIV Golf players who were banned from PGA Tour events and can only play in major tournaments. A rivalry has developed between the PGA Tour Pros and the LIV golfers who took the money from Saudi Arabia to join the new league. Notable players playing this weekend from LIV include Cam Smith, Brooks Koepka, and Bryson Dechambeau. Not many people are aware of how these LIV players are performing due to most of them only playing a few official rounds in the past few months. The favorite this week is once again Scottie Scheffler, and he hopes to regain the green jacket that he earned last year. Another big story is Rory McIlroy still looking for his very first Masters’ win. The win would then give him a career grand slam (winning the U.S Open, The Open, PGA Championship, Masters) and cement his legacy as one of the games best. Max Homa is another hopeful who is still looking for his career defining victory which could happen this week. My pick, once again, is going to be Scottie Scheffler. I don’t see a way anyone has the ability to maintain him throughout the week with how hot he is as of late. My next pick would be Rory as someone who has the ability to take him down. Scottie has only played Augusta National a few times, whereas Rory has been playing here for over a decade. Course knowledge is one of the deciding factors at the Masters, will Scottie remain red hot? Or will Rory’s course knowledge give him the grand slam.
