What It Means for Phoenix:

Thankfully, the Suns got other players besides Beal in this trade. Their depth and bench has been highly depleted with recent trades for Kevin Durant and now Bradley Beal. Since Phoenix will likely be near the second apron of the luxury tax, the Suns are going to have to convince veterans to sign on either the minimum or very team-friendly deals. Players like Jeff Green and John Wall will likely be attractive targets.

As far as who is currently on the roster, Bradley Beal might struggle to find a role in this lineup. Beal has always been regarded as an elite shooter, but it seems as though his numbers have never reflected it. Beal has been a ball-dominant player during his time in Washington, but that role will likely change now that he has to play alongside Devin Booker and Kevin Durant. Thankfully this might mean a reduced burden on Durant during the regular season, which should allow him to stay healthy and fresh for the playoffs.

Time will tell with Phoenix, as a Deandre Ayton trade could be in the cards in the form of a cap casualty.

What It Means for Washington:

The Wizards have finally focused their efforts on a full-scale rebuild. Washington was stuck in mediocrity when they were forced to build around Bradley Beal. Beal’s contract was the cause of the underwhelming return sent back to the Wizards. The roster is quite bare, especially with Johnny Davis underwhelming in year one. Corey Kispert developed into an elite shooter, and Deni Avdija has been quietly good as a wing playmaker. Outside of those two, everyone is expendable for Washington. CP3, who they got from Phoenix, is likely to be bought out. Both Kyle Kuzma and Kristaps Porzingis will likely be out of Washington heading into next season.

The Wizards now set their sights on the draft, where they have the number 8 overall pick. With Beal leaving, it is paramount to add a young guard to a roster which has very little guard depth. Players like Anthony Black, Kobe Bufkin, or Cason Wallace should all be available at 8. Unless one of the Thompson or Taylor Hendricks fall, Washington should look to add one of the college guards to kick off the first year in their rebuild.
